Typhoon Yagi swept through Hai Phong with wind force of level 12, causing damage of 10.820 billion VND, equal to 1/10 of the city's total budget revenue in 2023.
As reported, storm Yagi (storm No. 3 in 2024) made landfall in Hai Phong on September 7, causing heavy damage to people and property.
According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Hai Phong City, as of September 14, there were 9 deaths in the city (in Tien Lang district and Thuy Nguyen district), 2 people were injured.
Typhoon Yagi damaged more than 100.000 houses; 94 defense and security works; 575 schools; 467 medical facilities; 895 cultural works and historical and cultural relics.
Also in Hai Phong City, the storm damaged more than 25.000 hectares of rice fields; more than 3.000 hectares of flowers and vegetables; more than 3.300 hectares of forest; more than 82.000 urban trees; more than 4.600 hectares of aquaculture area; more than 3.200 electric poles; 70 transformer stations; more than 30.000 factories, enterprises, and industrial works; more than 1.200 agency headquarters; 213 markets and shopping centers; etc.
The total damage caused by storm Yagi in Hai Phong up to now (converted into money) is estimated at nearly 11.000 billion VND.
The damage caused by storm No. 3 in Hai Phong City is very large, and some units and localities have not yet fully restored their communication systems, so it is not possible to fully assess and count.
Faced with the above damage, Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau requested members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, leaders of the City People's Committee, Departments and branches to join hands, promote the spirit of solidarity, join hands to call on and mobilize businesses and people with conditions to support within their capacity, helping people overcome some of the consequences caused by storm Yagi.
In the immediate future, Mr. Chau requested all agencies and units in the city to respond to the campaign and call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Hai Phong City.
Mr. Chau assigned localities to continue to count the damage after the storm, focusing on implementing solutions to rebuild damaged infrastructure systems, especially urgent items at schools, hospitals, and administrative offices.
The Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee called on businesses and all people of Hai Phong City to continue promoting the tradition of solidarity, bravery, and the spirit of “mutual love and support”, joining hands, sharing, supporting, and encouraging each other to overcome the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in order to quickly bring the city back to normal life...
